  1. Do you need to have a background in music to sign up for the academy?

No, anyone can sign up for the Resurrection Music Academy, regardless of whether of not they have ever played an instrument.

  2. What ages of students are participating in the academy?

Students ages 7+ through adults are all welcome to enroll.  Currently, we have a pretty even balance between children and adults enrolled.

  3. Can a parent and child take the academy classes together?

Absolutely!  We’ve had a number of families choose this option.  We can ensure that parents (or grandparents) and children are placed in the same class.

  4. How long does the program take to complete?

The academy curriculum takes 2 years to complete.  (This includes the “Exploration” trimester.)

  5. Do I need to take the “Exploration” class before taking the “Focus” classes?

No, you are not required to take Explo before beginning Focus classes.  You are just required to take the class sometime during your first two trimesters.

However, if you are uncertain which instrument you would like to be your (or your child's) focus instrument, we recommend taking Explo before the Focus classes so that you can give each instrument a try.

  6. Why would I take group classes instead of private lessons?

Research has proven there are huge musical benefits for beginner students who study in groups.  Our main priority is to educate students in a group setting so that they can fully understand the dynamics of playing together with other musicians, and be challenged,  encouraged, and held accountable by one another.

  7. If I want to play in a worship band someday, is the school for me?

Absolutely!  Our goal will be to prepare students to be excellent musicians who can also play confidently in a band setting someday if they would like.

  8. Will I just play one instrument during the “Focus” trimesters, or multiple instruments?

You will focus on just one instrument for your “Focus” trimesters, unless you would like to sign-up for multiple instruments, in which case you could take (separate) classes for more than one instrument.

  9. Do you provide the instruments for classes?

Yes, we will provide instruments for the “Explo” classes, and for the drums and keys “Focus” classes.  But all students need to provide their own instruments for practice at home during the “Focus” semesters.

  10. Will all classes be held at Church of the Resurrection?

Yes, all classes will be held at Church of the Resurrection in the East building’s lower level.
